The base includes tunnels or working chambers 16, 17 which can be kept dry and can be isolated from one another by watertight partitions and doors 29, 30 and are bounded by watertight walls 26. Access to the chambers is from shaft B of the structure through watertight doors 27 and the chambers contain fluid handling equipment 36, 37, 38 and an internal piping system. Seals 34, 35 across the watertight walls 26 connect the internal piping system to parts 33 of an external piping system 6 located on the sea bed.</p> |
