In the pack diffusion coating of a small portion of the surface of a protectively cased superalloy, the balance of the surface is packed against an essentially inert pack contg. depletion-inhibiting amounts of added diffusable metals from the class consisting of aluminium, chromium, nickel, cobalt, and mixtures of these. The method is used for diffusion coating superalloy articles such as turbine vanes and blades, and burner rings in the hot section of jet engines, to protect against corrosion or oxidation at elevated temps.
|
