Stabilisation of rubber against oxidn. - using condensn. prods. of hexamethylene tetramine and phenolic cpds.

Stabilisation of rubbers and vulcanisates using phenolamine resins obtd from condensn. of hexamethylene tetramine (I) with (a) phenols substd. with alkyl, alkenyl, dialkyl, aryl alkyl or halogen gps., (b) dihydroxy diphenylalkanes, or (c) hydroxybenzoic acids. The resins may be used together with anti-oxidants of sec. amine, diamine, 2,6-dialkyl phenol, P- and S-contg. types. The additives are more efficient that known stabilisers, and increase tack of rubber compsns. The additional reactive amino gp. makes them more efficient than phenolic resins, and absence of methylol gps. as present in resol resins allows them to be handled at 80-100 degrees C or higher, without change. Soluble in organic solvents and compatible with rubbers.
