Cpds. of formula (I): (where A = H, OH, alkyl or alkoxy; B = H or A+B are together a bond or an O-bridge; X is COOR1, COSR1 or CONR2R3; R1 = alkyl, R2 and R3 = H, alkyl or together complete a satd. 5-6 membered heterocycle opt. contg. an additional O or N atom; all alkyl etc. is not >6C, are prepared e.g. by reacting R4R5P(O)CH2X (R4 and R5 = opt. substd. alkyl or aryl) with corresp. ketone. (I) regulate the growth of non-vertebrate animals esp. arthropods an nematodes. When applied to insects they specif. interfere with normal metamorphosis and egg development and caused sterile eggs to be laid. Toxicity to vertebrates is >1g/kg. (I) are applied in usual forms, generally to provide 10-3 to 10-6 g/sq.m. |
