A device for cutting blocks of foamed synthetic resin, esp. for cutting profiles of this and similar materials, has a cutting tool stretched across a frame pivoting on a carriage. The cutting tool is a familiar endless thread formed by twisting together a number of separate wires. This runs on guide and driving rollers at least one of which is coupled directly to a motor. The rollers are arranged in a "U"-shaped pivoting frame, lieing roughly in a horizontal plane, arranged on supports and able to pivot on an axis running through the centre of gravity of the frame, and parallel to the extension of the metal thread outside the frame. The supports are assembled on a moving carriage carried horizontally by guides on the base structure of the machine, so as to be displaceable transversely to the axis of the pivoting frame. Beneath the range of movement of the part of the wire outside the frame, there is a horizontal table for the material to be cut. The machine structure is low and allows a wide ranging motion to the cutter, which is easily accessible at any point. The twisted wire gives a clean cut and flat surfaces which can be glued easily and correctly in subsequent operations. Profiles can be cut with the smallest radii, since the wire can move in any direction vertically to its length.
|
