PURPOSE:To obtain an antitumor agent reduced in adverse effects and having an improved antitumor activity by culturing an antibiotic KO-3599A-producing bacterium belonging to the Streptomyces genus in a medium. CONSTITUTION:Streptomyces.SP.AKO-3599 (FERM 10779) strain having mycological and physicochemical properties such as morphological properties: the aerial mycelium grows well; the size of spores: 0.7X0.4mum; the properties of the strain on various media: grows well in an agar medium containing yeast extract or malt extract, does not produce any soluble pigment; growth temperature range: 15-42 deg.C; utilizes D-glucose, etc., is prepared from a soil in Okinawa. The strain is cultured in a medium and subsequently subjected to separation and purification treatments to provide the antibiotic KO-3599A having physicochemical properties: elemental composition: C15H14O4 (high resolution mass spectrum); mol.wt.: 258 [field desorption (FD) mass spectrum]; melting point: 209-210 deg.C; specific rotation: [alpha] =+50 (C=1.00, methanol); insoluble in water, etc., soluble in acetone, etc.; appearance: pale yellow needle-like crystal; etc. |
