<p>System for carrying out a reaction in a fluidised bed has a quantity of particles, a support for these particles and means of introducing >=2 reaction components into the bed, one of which at least is gaseous. The bed support consists of a rotating drum the outer wall of which is perforated. During operation the bed forms a layer on this. A method is provided to trap and retain particles entrained by the gas. If the drum and the trap are rotated at high speed, the particles are retained by centrifugal force. When the drum speed is dropped to nil. the particles drop back into the drum. Esp. for use with fluid bed combustion systems. Design avoids problems of turndown, or when using excessive throughput, tendancy to complete entrainment. The system uses centrifugal force to restrain the bed while retaining the advantages of a fluid bed.</p> |
