<p>The flippers are used when swimming to reduce fatigue and to increase the wearer's speed through the water. One is worn on each hand and they are made from a flexible material such as rubber or plastics sheet. Each flipper is in the form of a duck's foot, being sufficiently large for a hand with the fingers spread out. It is attached by means of a strap around the wrist and is provided with loops on the back surface. these fit over the wearer's fingers, the flipper increasing the area available to propel the swimmer through the water.</p> |
