Thermally and mechanically compensated precision ultra microtome - has thermal and mechanical insulation for knife and specimen feed controls

An ultra microtome with a common support for a feed device, knife and specimen holders and feed controls, is supported in a dish-shaped unit (1, 13) on a bed of elastic thermally insulating material (17). The controls (3, 6) for the feed, the knife holder, and the specimen feed may be supported on the elastic bed independently of the support (16). The effect is to reduce the effect of external temperature changes or mechanical vibrations on the components controlling the accuracy of the instrument. Two alternative designs are given.
