Polypropylene glycols with reduced double bond content - obtd. by polymerising propylene oxide in presence of glycidol and basic catalysts

Polypropylene glycols with a reduced double bond content are prepd. by polymerising propylene oxide in the presence of a basic catalyst and opt. a solvent, 0.1-3 mols glycidol/100 mole propylene oxide is also present. The resulting polypropylene glycols do not require any further treatment and may be used directly as the polyol components for polyurethane manufacture. The basic catalysts are specifically NaOH, KoH, alkali methylates, etc. and are used in amt. of 0.2-10%, pref. 0.5-5% with respect to the monomer.
