<p>Storage tank for very low temp. liqs., partic. a vertical cylindrical tank to hold liquefied gas and comprising a tank inner wall, a surrounding layer of thermal insulation and contg. the insulation, a tank outer wall. The outer wall is made up of panels of corrugated metal sheet, bedded on the thermal insulation and with the sheet corrugations running horizontally. At the bottom of the outer wall each panel pref. has its lower edge set in a sealing cpd. between the flanges of a channel section. The thermal insulation pref. comprises minreal fibres and/or an expanded plastic such as polyurethane foam. The construction pref. comprises vertical stiffening rods, e.g. tubes, and partic. rectangular hollow section tubes, load-bearing to the base and secured between inner and outer walls. Inter-panel joints should be made vapour-tight with resilient seals. Simple, inexpensive construction capable of withstanding the severe thermal stresses imposed as the tank is filled or emptied.</p> |
