<p>1467351 Cyclopentene derivatives; organoboron compounds F HOFFMANN-LA ROCHE & CO AG 11 Feb 1974 [12 Feb 1973] 6131/74 Headings C2C and C2B Novel compounds LII in which COOR 3 represents a carboxy group or an ester protecting group convertible into a carboxy group by hydrolysis and optically active antipodes, racemates and alkali metal salts thereof, are prepared by reacting an alkali metal or thallium (I) salt of cyclopentadiene with a compound of formula X-CH 2 -COOR 1 in which X is halogen and COOR 1 is an ester protecting group convertible into a carboxy group by hydrolysis, to form a compound VI reacting this with an optically active organoboron hydride in the presence of an inert organic solvent to produce an optically active borane of Formula VIIIA or its optically active isomer, in which R 5 is an optically active organo moiety, x is 1 or 2, y is 0 or 1 and x+y is 2, and reacting this with an alkali metal hydroperoxide or an organic peracid in the presence of an organic solvent, followed, if desired by hydrolysing the ester obtained to the free acid. The compounds of the invention are useful as intermediates in the production of prostaglandins.</p> |
