1466993 Corrugating thermoplastics webs CARL MUNTERS AB 5 March 1974 [13 March 1973] 9856/74 Heading B5A [Also in Division D1] Apparatus for corrugating a thermoplastics web 16 includes a paddle-wheel 68 for introducing the web into a corrugated porous mould surface for preforming the web with lack of stretching and a vacuum source 70 for completing the movement of the web to the mould surface. The latter comprises a plurality of apertured plates (66, Figs. 2a, 2b, not shown) arranged to move in an endless path and having corrugating grooves arranged diagonally to the web and recesses (86, Fig. 2a) for accommodating doubled-over edge portions of the web. The edges are folded by co-operating rollers 22, 24 and ploughs 34 positioned up or down-stream of heaters 48 and reflector 50. An additional hot air heater 52 is provided for further heating of the doubled-over edges. A spring-loaded feeler roller 38 ensures satisfactory feed to the heaters 48. A second vacuum source 76 retains the web in the mould corrugations as it cools down. The web may be of polystyrene, or P.V.C. |
