The technique provides a low electrical resistance, long life connection of a conductor to a metal plate and may also be used underwater. The conductor (11) to be connected is provided with a conical hole and laid on the plate (8), the smaller of the two diameters facing the plate. A rod (9) terminated with a chamfer matching the cone angle is inserted in the hole and spun generating sufficient heat to provide a weld at the conductor plate interface and at the upper surface of the conductor. Thermal insulation can be provided by a suitable sleeve (16) around the rod.
