<p>The vehicle safety belt reel comprises a U shaped housing fixed to the bodywork. a spindle, with a lobed cam, passes through the housing and carries side plates mounted eccentrically. the spindle has a pin inside holding the belt, wound under spiral spring pressure. The belt passes behind a roller fitted between extensions of the side plates. a leaf spring holds the side plates against a stop located in a lobe of the cam. Normally, this spring prevents movement of the side plates. a sudden pull releases the cam and the side plates move forward eccentrically to lock.</p> |
