A telecommunication system has instruments arranged in groups and controlled via multiway address lines by means of binary coded address information. The code elements are arranged in a fixed order and the positions of the figures represent a predetermined sequence of setting values. The individual instruments are combined in groups, wherein similar instruments are built up in the same way as regards their address receivers. The code elements of all address information are each divided into two sections. The address receivers of the individual instruments have individual wiring characteristics of the sections of the coded elements.
