Ski boot with ankle support - has ankle cuff hinged onto heel and instep shell and moulded ankle supports

The ski boot has a plastic shell for the instep and heel, onto which ankle supports are moulded. There is a separately moulded ankle cuff enclosing the ankle support plates and fastened securely with lever closures or laces. The ankle cuff (18) is made of plastics material and is hinged onto the instep and heel shell (10) so that it can pivot about the horizontal lateral axis (20). The cuff increases in depth from the instep zone to the Achilles tendon zone. The cuff can be detached from one of its hinge points so that the foot can slide into the boot. Thus the boot is fitted round the foot and ankle giving optimum support.
