Excess weld material 13 deposited at the welded junctions of rails 14, e.g. in a railway track 15 is removed by one stroke of an hydraulically-actuated channel-shaped tool 21 which rests on and is guided by the rail 14. A bracket 18 adapted to be locked at any desired position to the rail 14 provides a pivotal support 22 for the hydraulic actuating cylinder 19 which acts in a partly downward direction to hold the tool 21 on the rail during the cutting stroke. The tool is shaped to give the desired rail profile and the cutting edges are curved so as also to hold the tool down during cutting. A portable hydraulic power assembly A supplies the actuating cylinder 19. The end of the piston 20 is formed with a cross-bar 24 and rotatable yoke 25 adapted to engage a ridge member 26 on the upper surface of the tool.</p> |
