1466305 Briquetting apparatus J MOLITORISZ 24 Jan 1974 [29 Jan 1973] 03259/74 Heading A2B In a roller type briquetting apparatus, the axes of rotation of the rollers can be skewed from substantially parallel to the fodder chamber when at rest to skew thereto. The apparatus comprises a core forming channel defined by a plurality of compression rollers arranged circumferentially of the channel and extending longitudinally thereof with a transverse inlet between two of such rollers. One set of ends of said rollers is supported by a roller drive gear box arranged to drive at least one of the rollers, the gear box being mounted for pivotal movement about an axis extending longitudinally of the channel and arranged between the axes of said rollers. The gear box is biased to a rest position in which the axes of said rollers are substantially parallel to the axis of the channel and the input shaft of the gear box is so disposed relative to the axes of said rollers that when the input shaft is driven it exerts a torque on the gear box in opposition to the bias thereon so as to rotate the gear box from said rest position if the torque exceeds a predetermined value, thus skewing the axes of said rollers relative to the axis of the channel so that the rollers exert an axial force on a core of material e.g. fodder within the channel. The rotational movement of the gear box may be limited by adjustable stop means which serve additionally to define the rest position. Preferably the rollers include a primary receiving section and a secondary finishing section, an axial interspace being formed therebetween, and a cutter blade may be arranged to operate in the space between the sections to cut the core in the channel into briquettes which are further rolled by the finishing section prior to discharge from the apparatus.
