1449302 Oral compositions PROCTER & GAMBLE CO 6 March 1974 [6 March 1973] 10050/74 Heading A5B Oral compositions for inhibiting the formation of plaque, caries and calculus are obtained by bringing together (A) from 0.1 to 2.5% by weight of a bisguamide compound of formula: wherein A and A' are each (a) phenyl optionally substituted by up to two C1-C4 alkyl or alkoxy groups, nitro or halogen, (b) C1-C12 alkyl or (c) a C4-C12 alicyclic group; X and X' are' C1-C3 alkylene: z and z' are 0 or 1: R and R' are H, C1-C12 alkyl or C7-C@@ aralkyl; n is 2 to 12 and wherein the -(CH2)nchain may be interrupted by up to 5 -O-, -S-, phenylene or naphthylene moieties: or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof: or a mixture of such compounds and/or salts, and (B) from 0.05 to 1.25% by weight in excess of the amount which will react with component (A) of nitrilo-triacetic acid, hendic acid, glycine, alpha-alanine, #-alanine, serine, leucine or valine. their water-soluble pharmaceutically acceptable salts or mixtures thereof. The compositions may also contain a water-soluble source of fluoride ions, and may be put up as dentifrices, such as toothpaste. The compositions eliminate or reduce the brown stain often found on oral surfaces when bis-guamide compounds are used therein. |
