Prodn. of moulded articles from foamed materials, esp. flexible plastic foam consists of deep-cooling the foam and mechanically working it while cold. Specifically, foam rollers and cylinders are produced by deep-cooling a foam block and cutting out rollers and cylinders by cutting and drilling. An internal borehole may be drilled simultaneously into foam roller. Rollers can be used as inking rollers and as wetting or or sport rollers in copying machines. While cooled, foams, esp. open-pored foams, undergo temporary embrittlement and put up sufficient resistance to working tool. Working is facilitated, accelerated and can proceed according to desired measurements. |
