Reinforced rubber or rubbery plastics conveyor belts mfr. - by assembling laminated strips side by side and bonding them together

Mfr. of conveyor belts with longitudinally extending, spaced, reinforcements (e.g. wire cords or similar filamentous structures) embedded in a core layer between top strata, is claimed. Strips whose width is only a fraction of that of the belt to be mfd., are built up from top strata and a core layer, each stric having >=1 wire cord embedded in it. The elastomer components of the resulting laminate are converted to an elastic state; the strips are placed side-by-side; and their contact surfaces are firmly bonded together. The claimed process is simpler than prior-art belt build-up methods. The resulting belt is mechanically strong and free from undesirable stiff patches. Heavy-duty belts of any length may be assembled.
