The application is principally to the manufacture of cable looms used in the wiring of road vehicles, and has as its objective the more precise and firmer location of the ties. Such location is particularly important at tee-off points where subsequent handling may cause the ties to slip. On the wiring board mounting blocks (10), made of wood or other suitable material, are located. Each block has a channel wide enough to contain at least all the wires required at that point. Each block also has a groove following the contour of the channel through which the tie can be threaded. With all wires in position the tie is inserted at the start (14) of one groove and pushed through until it emerges (15) at the other end. At a tee-off it can then be crossed (14a, 15a) over the junction before tying off to give a secure hold. On conclusion of the work the loom can readily be lifted off the blocks.
