A disconnector under load has a reduced depth and height to obtain reduced size when two disconnectors are stacked. It has knife-edge moving contacts and mating fixed contacts. Each moving contact has an arc extinction tube and an operating linkage. The moving contacts also have a knee-joint so that the contacts are brought into the space between the pivoting point and the linkage device. The arc extinction tubes are telescopic and hinged. A spring is used to bring the extinction tubes to rest positions between the upper parts of the knife-edge contacts. The space containing the knife-edge and their associated extinction tube is limited by a shell-shaped insulating material part.
