1466170 Laminate containing relief coating EUROFLOOR SA 8 May 1974 [21 Nov 1973] 20285/74 Heading B5N [Also in Divisions B2 and B6] A support bearing a relief composite coating is made by printing a decoration on to the support, applying at least one discontinuous layer of a transparent plastisol over the printed decoration and in registration therewith, and passing the product through a gelation oven. A transparent wear layer may be applied over the reliefimparting plastisol, either before or after passage through the oven, by lamination (which may be effected by adhesive with passage of the layers beneath a magnetic rod held thereagainst by a magnet) or by air-knife or curtain coating of a plastisol. A continuous transparent layer may also be applied between the printed decoration and relief-imparting plastisol. The support may be a stable support (i.e. dimensionally stable at the gelation temperature of the plastisol) or a deformable support, but in the latter case must be laminated with a stable support prior to reaching the gelation oven. Further support layers may be laminated to the coated product after gelation. Suitable stable supports are woven or non-woven fabrics, wood, metal, synthetic resin sheets, paper or a PVC sheet (which may be cellular) laminated to an asbestos felt. The decoration may be printed on the support by a heliographic printing technique and the plastisol applied in registration therewith by silk-screening. In Examples; (2) a non-woven polyester fabric is impregnated with PVC plastisol, heated, printed with pigmented vinyl chloride copolymer, laminated with a transparent PVC film using a vinyl copolymer adhesive, screen-printed with vinyl acetate copolymer paste and gelled; the support is subsequently laminated with two PVC sheets: (3) a PVC film is printed as before, laminated with PVC-coated asbestos felt which is also bonded to an expandable PVC layer, relief printed as before and heated in a gelation oven; the product is further laminated to a transparent PVC film and then heated to blow the expandable layer. The products are used as floor or wall coverings. |
