The novel difficulty water-sol. disazo cpds. are of formula (I): In (I) R1-R3 are each H, halogen, NO2, CN, CF3, alkyl, alkoxy, alkoxycarbonyl, phenoxycarbonyl, aminocarbonyl, alkylaminocarbonyl, dialkylaminocarbonyl or phenylaminocarbonyl; A is a direct link or a bridging gp. of formulae: in which the ring B may be opt. substd. by halogen, NO2, CN, CF3, alkyl, alkoxy or alkoxycarbnyl). (I) are prepd. by coupling, in any order, 2 mol. 2-hyd-roxynaphthalene-3-carboxylic acid or a functional acid deriv. thereof, with 2 mol. of a diazotised amine of formula (II): and condensing with 1 mol. of a diamine of formula (III):H2N-A-NH2. (I) are used are red-violet pigments for coating compsns. plastics e.g. polyethylene, polystyrene, PVC, rubber etc. for spin dyeing viscose or cellulose acetate printing inks and paper, having generally fast props.
