A current collector has several rubbing contacts (2) for transferring electrical energy from an overhead wire to an electric vehicle, the collector being attached to the vehicle by an arm. The collector arm and/or the contact(s) are held in a movable fashion against the overhead wire. The collector arm (1) is arrow-shaped, the contacts being circular discs mounted on its top surface. The contacts are carbon and may have impregnated metal particles. On the underside of each contact is a coaxial drive shaft, at right angles to the disc surface and to the wire. The shaft has a sprocket wheel. The sprockets are driven by a chain from a motor.
