Cable cutter for aero spatial use - has flexible plug in cylinder forming seal between cutter and pyrotechnic charge

The cable cutter is intended for aero spacial use and comprises a cylinder (1) with one end closed. The cable (4) passes through this, resting on an anvil (3) and has the cutter blade (5) above. This is sealed by a flexible plug (6), rubber or plastic, fitted on top of the cutter and firmly gripped by the cylinder walls. A hammer (7) and pyrotechnic charge (2) is positioned above this, a space being left above the plug. Firing the charge drives the hammer onto the plug. This expands against the cylinder walls, preventing gas leakage and transmitting the impact to the cutter which severs the cable.
