Making composite sheets comprises one or more layers of soft adsorbant sheet supported by an impermeable flexible plastic or metallic film, where the layers are super-imposed and wound on to a reel and one or both ends of the roll of the wound layers is coated with a mutual adhesive. The layers are then unwound, suing the supporting layer to break the bond between successive turns. Used for mfr. of impermeable cloths or paper for use as wipes, table linen, tampons etc. Suitable for joining layers of cotton wool, apper or woven fabrics to layers of PVC, polyethylene or polypropylene film. Adhesive edge bonding is more tolerant of layer thickness variations of super position of more than two layers than fusion welding techniques. The overall process is rapid per unit length of sheet, since reeling, coating and unreeling can all be quick operations.
|
