The prefabricated housing unit can be easily erected, dismantled and transported, and can be used in a variety of combinations using only a small number of standard panels. The panels are air/water-tight and insulate both heat and noise. The insulating material forms the sandwich core (4) (e.g. polyurethane foam) between two layers of fibreglass or polyester. The panels are coated with fire-resistant coloured vinyl. Wall panels are slotted into grooves in the floor and ceiling. The unit can be mounted on either skids or wheels. Where wheels are used, the unit can be dismantled and the panels placed on top of the floor-section which then acts as a trailer. This is the case when the unit is moved at frequent intervals.
