A projector with an integral spool has a group of drive or gear wheels (9, 63, 61) mounted on a framework and in mesh with each other and a main drive shaft (2) such that the drive or gear wheel group may be pivoted out to allow automatic forward or backward running to be accomplished by a simple motor rotation direction reversal. This allows re-spooling in the forward drive rotation direction. A drive roller which is only powered when the drive/gear wheel group is uncoupled powers the film to allow respooling to be carried out from the integral spool.
