摘要 1465501 Making bone implants COMPTOIRLYON-ALEMAND-LOUYOT 30 Jan 1974 [31 Jan 1973] 4256/74 Heading B3A [Also in Divisions A5 and C7] A bone implant formed of a single metal which is compatible with bone tissue is made by welding to a core a porous covering formed by welding together perforated foil layers each of a thickness between 0À05 and 0À5 mm. so that the perforations together form passages of which the minimum transverse dimension is 50 Á, the covering having a thickness between 5 and 50% of the maximum dimension of the core, placing the core so covered in a suspension comprising ethyl cellulose, ethylene glycol and particles of a hydride of the same metal as the core and having a maximum transverse dimension less than 10Á, withdrawing the immersed body and removing excess suspension, and vacuum sintering for about two hours. Typically the core is # inch diameter screw-threaded titanium rod which is held in a lathe chuck and the lathe rotated by hand to wind around it a foil of ¢ inch width expanded titanium sheet welding being effected at intervals along lines parallel to the axis of the screw threaded rod. When the expanded foil covering is of the desired thickness the covered core is immersed in a suspension containing titanium hydride particles and vacuum sintering is thereafter effected at 1100‹ C. Reference is made to the alternative use of tantalum, base alloys of titanium or tantalum, or a chromium-cobalt-molybdenum alloy.
