The vehicle lifting system installed in a garage for maintenance and repair of vehicles has four columns with two cross members mounted across them, supporting ramps along which the vehicle is driven. Each column or three of the four columns carries an arm (6) extending from it, which is swung inwards under the chassis, and used to lift the vehicle. This arm (6) is attached to a ball bearing mounted flanged collar (9, 10) which can slide on the column (1) and also swing around it. Inside the column is a hydraulic piston (31) suspended from a cable (4) which passes upwards to then pass around a pulley (7) on top, then down to another pulley (5) on the side of the collar and anchored to the arm.
