1466048 3-nitropyridinecarboxamides SANKYO CO Ltd 6 Aug 1975 [14 Aug 1974(2) 24 Aug 1974 26 Dec 1974 11 Jan 1975 27 Feb 1975 12 March 1975 12 April 1975] 32833/75 Heading C2C [Also in Division A5] The invention comprises compounds of formula and their inorganic acid addition salts, wherein R1 is H, Me or halomethyl; and either R2 is H and R3 is H, an alkyl group having from 1 to 3 carbon atoms, an allyl group, an alkoxyalkyl group having 2 or 3 carbon atoms in the alkyl moiety and 1 or 2 carbon atoms in the alkoxy moiety, a hydroxyalkyl group having from 1 to 3 carbon atoms, an alkanoyl group having from 1 to 18 carbon atoms, an alkenoyl group having from 3 to 11 carbon atoms, a haloacetyl group, an aromatic acyl group, an heterocyclic acyl group, an N-alkyl-carbamoyl group having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms in the alkyl moiety, or OH, or R2 and R3 are each C 1-3 alkyl; provided that R2 and R3 may not both be H when R1 is H or Me. These compounds are prepared by known methods for making or modifying the amide groups, or by halogenating I(R1=Me) to give I(R1=halomethyl). Veterinary compositions for treating coccidiosis comprise compounds of the above formula (see Division A5).
