A conc. substance consists essentially of a glycosyloxy deriv. of a 4-(2,6,6-trimethylcyclohexan-1-yl) butane of formula (II) or (III) below:- In (I) the ring and/or the 4C chain is unsaturated and the molecule may be substd. by =O and/or OH. In (II) a double bond is present at one of the positions indicated by the dotted line. One of R2 and R4 is -OX where X is a mono- or di-saccharide radical; or R2, R3 and R4 are H, =O, or -OH provided R3 and R4 are not both =O; R6 is H or OH In (III), one Y is as X above, the other is H. A compsn. for smoking comprises tobacco, reconstituted tobacco or a tobacco substitute or a mixture of these, and a flavouring aget of formula above. The pref. glucoside is a beta-D-glucoside. The glycoside of 4-(4-keto-2,6,6 trimethyl-cyclohex-2-en-1-yl)-but-3-en-2-ol is prepd. from the alcohol and 2,3,4,6-tetraacetyl-alpha-D- glycopyranosyl bromide, followed by hydrolysis of the acetyl gps. |
