1379349 Ketones INTERNATIONAL FLAVORS & FRAGRANCES Inc 15 June 1973 [15 June 1972] 28571/73 Heading C2C [Also in Divisions A5 and C5] The invention comprises compounds of the formula where the dashed line is a single or double carbon to carbon bond; X is oxygen; Y is -CHR 9 - or -CHR 10 -CHR 11 -; R 1 , R 2 , R 3 and R 4 are alkyl; R 7 , R 8 , R 9 , R 10 and R 11 are H or alkyl, with the proviso that R 7 or R 8 is alkyl when R 9 is alkyl; R 5 is not present and R 6 is H when the dashed line is a double bond; and R 5 and R 6 are H or together form an oxirane ring when the dashed line is a single bond. The compounds are prepared by treating a compound of the formula with an alkali metal dichromate in the presence of an alkanoic acid.
