An aqueous thermosetting lacquer is prepared by producing short-chain adducts under esterification conditions from dibasic carboxylic acids or their reactive derivatives and dihydric or polyhydric alcohols, which are employed in a stoichiometric excess. These adducts are reacted with diamines and with tribasic carboxylic acids capable of imide group formation, or the reactive derivative of these acids, if appropriate with further addition of dihydric or polyhydric alcohols. The diamines are employed in a stoichiometric amount of 5 to 95%, based on the carboxyl groups required for the imide group formation. To achieve solubility in water, the product obtained is neutralized with ammonia or organic amines. The lacquer is then adjusted to processing conditions by addition of water, water-compatible solvents and lacquer auxiliaries. The lacquer obtained by this process may be used as a wire lacquer. |
