摘要 <p>Sintered carbide prod. with opt. a magnetic or a non-magnetic binder matrix is produced by milling a mixt. of WC and Ti together with approx. 10% wt. Ni and sintering the compacted mixt. Sufficient Ti is added to form free W which then alloys with the Ni to form a binder matrix contg. is not >28% W. To form the non-ferromagnetic sintered carbide prod. the ratio of W in the binder to the binder alloy is 15-28% wt, whilst to form the ferromagnetic material this ratio is 14% wt. Pref. at least part of the Ti is added as a Ti-Ni alloy and/or Ti hydride. The compsn. may also contain approx. 1% wt Cr and grain growth during sintering is inhibited by adding 0.05-2.0% wt Ti. The props. can be made ferro-magnetic or non ferromagnetic as required whilst still retaining good strength and wear resistance together with chemical inertness. Used as magnetic type guides, cutting tools, and tools for glass making where Co contamination is detrimental.</p>
