Vibration damper for vehicles - has lubricated friction discs alternately connected to sprung and unsprung masses

Vibration damper for vehicles has a stack of friction discs (6a, 6b) alternately keyed to a rotor (2) connected to the unsprung mass and to a stator (1) secured to the sprung mass. The stack is enclosed in a housing filled with lubricant. The discs have radial grooves for the lubricant and alternate discs have smooth and porous surfaces. Pref. the grooves are formed by slots cut into the discs from the outer periphery and each ending in an axial hole in the disc. The arrangement suppresses noise and improves the response of the damper to vibrations of low amplitude.
