A fraction of non-combustible gas in the combustion air is withdrawn from the combustion zone, which may be a ballast of nitrogen and rare gases, whilst maintaining the quantity of oxygen required to ensure the same degree of combustion as previously, the quantity of heat, previously absorbed in heating this ballast thus being liberated and now being able to compensate for the cooling effect on the flame due to the excess ash, by heating the excess to the desired temperature. This provides complete combustion of fuel with increased ash contents, including solids introduced into flame, with resulting high temperature fluctuation.
|
