The radial piston unit is intended for use as pump or motor. It comprises a housing containing a rotor (26) with a number of circumferentially spaced radial piston elements, and an adjustable cam ring (20) engaging the elements. To reduce vibration of the cam ring, a vibration attenuating mechanism is provided comprising a brake shoe carried in part of the housing and capable of engaging the ring. A force is exerted on the shoe in the direction towards the ring, which force is directly proportional with the hydraulic fluid pressure. The action of the shoe forces the ring against a face inside another part of the housing, so that the ring is subjected to a clamping action between shoe and housing.
