<p>1463434 Two-layer test strip BOEHRINGER MANNHEIM GmbH 24 July 1975 [30 July 1974] 30994/75 Heading G1B A stable test strip for the detection of components in liquids comprises two layers in face-to face relationship, one of which is non-water soluble and the other of which is a water-soluble paper and one or both of which contains an indicator and each of which contains some of the totality of reagents necessary for the detection. An unstable reagent can be impregnated from an organic solvent on to the water soluble paper and the remainder of the reagents are impregnated on to the other layer material, for example an ordinary filter paper or fibre fleece. The two layers are then sealed one over the other between a synthetic resin film and a fine meshwork or alternatively the other layer may be stuck to a synthetic resin strip and the watersoluble paper layer attached to it. The watersoluble paper may have a width per unit area of 10 to 100g/m<SP>2</SP> and may be of carboxymethylcellulose, optionally mixed with up to 30% other fibres, the carboxymethylcellulose being converted into its water-swellable alkali metal salts, or of methyl cellulose fibres with a methoxy content of 5 to 15%. Examples relate to test strips for detection of blood in urine, acetoacetate in urine and nitrate in urine.</p> |
