A dry pigment preparation comprises a pigment and as pigment carrier a mixture of an amorphous polypropylene and a copolymer of ethylene and propylene and is used to colour synthetic resins or synthetic or natural rubbers. The pigment, e.g. 40-75%, is incorporated, e.g. by kneading at 100 DEG C. or above, without the use of any liquid into the carrier, e.g. 25-60%. The ethylene-propylene copolymer may contain 30-50 mol per cent propylene, have a reduced viscosity of 2-4, a Defo hardness of 300-1200, a Mooney viscosity of 30-70 and contains 0 to 5% of crystalline copolymer. The polypropylene may be a wax and may have an intrinsic viscosity of 0.2-0.5 and contain 0.5-15% of crystalline polymer. The carrier may contain 10-95% of the copolymer and 5-90% of the polypropylene. The pigment preparation may be in granular form. The pigment is exemplified by organic colouring matter. The preparation may be used to colour natural and synthetic caoutchouc, polyvinyl chloride, polyethylene, polypropylene and polystyrene.
