PURPOSE:To print the serial numbers for media to be printed automatically, to prevent working loss and to save labor by controlling the operations of a conveying means, a printing means and an inspecting means with a control means. CONSTITUTION:When a conveying means 3 of an apparatus sequentially conveys a plurality of media to be printed, a printing means 4 prints serial numbers which are sequentially different for every sheet on the individual printing media to be printed which are conveyed with the conveying means. Each medium to be printed whose printing is finished is conveyed to a position in an inspecting means 5 with the conveying means 3. The inspecting means 5 inspects the continuity and the printed state of the serial number on each medium to be printed. The result of the inspection is sent into a control means 6. The control means 6 performs the changing control of the serial number for the printing means 4 only when the result of the inspection is good and updates the contents of the inspection of the inspecting means 5. Thus, the printing means 4 prints the serial number whose value is different by 1 for the following medium to be printed. The media to be printed after the printing and the inspection are sequentially conveyed out with the conveying means 3. |
