An apparatus for composting waste comprises a container 10 with a plurality of perforated conduits 22 located at different levels therein, wherein each of said conduits is bent in a horizontal plane so as to enable distribution of water and air over the said horizontal plane, and wherein each of the conduits has an outer end 24 secured to the container wall and an inner free end 34 positioned centrally of its horizontal plane, there being a substantially vertical elongated vibration bar 54 coupled to each of the conduits at its inner free end for transmitting vibration motions to the conduits, the outer ends of the conduits being connected to inlet means for supplying water and air to the waste inside the container. The container 10 may be disposed adjacent to a settling basin 36 for waste water, with a duct 38 being provided to connect basin and container and thus supply waste water to the interior of the container. Further, a conduit 56 and pump 58 may be connected between the basin and container for supplying sludge to the upper portion of the container.</p> |
