1356461 Collagen fibres and films FMC CORP 28 April 1971 [5 June 1970] 11925/71 Heading B5B [Also in Division C3] Extruded or moulded bodies are obtained by extruding or moulding an aqueous composition comprising 10-90% by weight of a waterinsoluble, ionizable partial salt of collagen having a bound acid content of 50-90% of the theoretical stoichiometric value, at least 1% by weight of the partial salt having a particle size under 1 micron optionally comprising a plasticizer such as glycerine and a reinforcing material, e.g. natural or synthetic fibres, microcrystalline cellulose, mineral silicates, polyamides, polyesters, and/or collagen cross-linking agents. Filaments, tubes, sheets and films may be obtained, e.g. by passing the composition through heated zones and extruding and then stretching the extrudate by about 100% after leaving the extrusion orifices by virtue of which increased tensile strengths are obtained. |
