PURPOSE:To attain the exit of light to the outside at an intermediate point or the incidence of the light from the outside by forming at least one light leaking region on the peripheral surface of a core. CONSTITUTION:A clad 12 disposed around the core 11 is formed to have a part of the refractive index larger than the refractive index of the remaining part in order to assure the light leaking regions. The light applied to one end of the core 11 is, therefore, transmitted, as shown by a solid arrow X0, in the extension direction thereof while iterating total reflection on the boundary face of the core 11 and the clad 12; in addition, a pat of the light is emitted to the outside from the large-refractive index regions 12a of the clad 12. The light is made incident on the core 11 when this light is made incident from the outside, as shown by arrows Y1, Y2, on the large-refractive index regions 12a of the clad 12. The light is then transmitted, as shown by a broken arrow Y0, along the extension direction while iterating the total reflection on the boundary face o the core 11 and the clad 12. |
