Fireproof road surface repair compsn. contains (a) 10-20% pitch, (b) 20-25% refractory particles, (c) 37-60% Fe scale and (d) 10-18% Al particles. (c) and (d) are present in proportions such that an exothermic reaction occurs which melts the Fe scale and produces a smelt contg. the refractory particles. The compsn. pref. consists of 10% (a), 20% (b), 60% (c), and 10% (d) pref. consists of brick dust or blast furnace slag.
