PURPOSE:To obtain an Al2O3-ZrO2 compounded sintered material having improved strength, toughness and hardness in the same time, comprising a fine structure wherein a zone of Al2O3 crystal zone is separated into zones of given average particle range by ZrO2 crystal phase consisting essentially of tetragonal system. CONSTITUTION:A compounded sintered material consisting of ZrO2 crystal phase comprising mainly tetragonal ZrO2 or composed of ZrO2 containing <=4mol% Y2O3 or <=14mol% CeO2 as a stabilizer and alumina crystal phase, and satisfying the following condition. Namely, as the condition, the compounded sintered material must have fine structure wherein the zone of the Al2O3 crystal phase is separated into 0.1-2mum average size by the ZrO2 crystal phase. Content of Al2O3 in the Al2O3-ZrO2 compounded sintered material is preferably 40-90vol.%. The compounded sintered material shows excellent characteristics of >=100kg/mm<2> strength, >=4MN/m<3/2> fracture toughness and >=1,500kg/mm<2> Vickers hardness. |
