The column spacers (70) are arranged at the designated areas of a substrate (60). The protrusions (55) with certain height is formed on another substrate (50) corresponding to the portions of the column spacers. The compensation patterns having height which is lower than that of the protrusions, are formed on another substrate (50) corresponding to the edges of the column spacers. The gap between the substrates is filled by a liquid crystal layer. An independent claim is included for method for manufacturing LCD device.
